Curriculum
Cathedral School provides a challenging and relevant curriculum
including many experiences in positive spiritual growth, ineffective
communication skills, in applied critical thinking, and in the
practical application of technology. In all subjects, there is an
emphasis on hands-on learning. For example, the FAST/DASH programs
are used in science, and the multi-sensory approaches of Slingerland
and Orton-Gillingham are used in language arts. Hawaiian Studies,
Japanese, and music are also provided. In addition, JPOs, a sports
program, and student government are offered. |

Profile
Cathedral
School is the Catholic co-educational School, Grades K-8 of Cathedral of Our
Lady of Peace Parish, located in the lower Nuuanu area on the island of Oahu In
1993 Cathedral School was among the first Catholic elementary schools to be
fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and
the Western Educational Association (WCEA). About 1933 Cathedral School began as
an all-boys school on River Street under the administration of the Marianist
Community. It was known as the “Free School”, later as Saint Francis School. In
1935 it was moved to the 1728 Nuuanu Avenue site and became known as Cathedral
School. In 1956 the administration of the school was transferred from the
Marianists to the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity from Manitowoc,
Wisconsin and the school became co-educational with the admission of seven
girls. The administration of the school was transferred to a lay person in 1975.
The school continues to be staffed by lay persons. |
